Alex Smith completed his Master of Fine Arts at the New School for Social Research and Doctor of Psychology at George Washington University. Following a clinical internship at Fordham University’s Counseling Center, Dr. Smith joined the center as a Supervising Psychologist. Dr. Smith completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the New York Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, where he conducted psychodiagnostic testing, depth psychotherapy, and consulted on assessments of patients at hospitals and the community. Returning to Washington, DC, Dr. Smith joined St. Albans School as a Consulting Psychologist, and directed the assessment team at Quince Orchard Psychotherapy.

Currently, Dr. Smith serves as the Director of Assessment and Accommodations at St. Albans, directs the psychology program at the Psychiatric Institute of Washington, and maintains a small private practice in Tenleytown.

Dr. Smith’s clinical and teaching interests include the assessment of psychosis and a transtheoretical approach to psychological assessment, supervision, and integrative approaches to psychotherapy. He lives in Bethesda, and enjoys cinema, manga, and painting in his free time.
