Affiliate Sites

In their second year (and third, if students choose not to remain at the clinic for externship), students divide their time between the Center Clinic and affiliate sites throughout the region. Affiliate sites are schools or community agencies with which the Center Clinic partners to provide psychological services and support.

By taking advantage of alliances between the PsyD program and dozens of public and private agencies in the greater Washington, D.C., area, students have the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population in a variety of settings. The center partners with sites from three types of settings: child, adult and testing.

Hours and Placement

Each second-year extern is expected to build a caseload of four to six hours of patient contact each week. The optimal disbursement of these hours would be to divide them evenly between the clinic and the affiliate site in order to provide different clinical experiences. These numbers, however, vary by site.

Generally, rising third-year externs are given preference over second-year students in terms of site placement. Externs are asked to evaluate their site toward the end of their training.
