About the Center Clinic

The Center Clinic, a not-for-profit organization, was founded in 1997 and offers a variety of affordable treatment options to individuals in the community. We specialize in psychotherapy and comprehensive psychological evaluations with children and adults. Group therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy are also available. We invite you to look through our web site and call us if you have questions.

The Center Clinic is an outpatient community mental health and training clinic affiliated with the George Washington University Professional Psychology Program. The program offers the Doctor of Psychology degree and is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). Clinicians are advanced graduate students supervised by licensed, mental health professionals.

What is discussed in psychotherapy sessions, as well as any testing data, is confidential and all staff members adhere to the guidelines of HIPPA and the laws of the District of Columbia. Patient records are maintained under strict security measures that are consistent with professional practices.

Psychological treatment is most effective when you feel able to be direct and honest with your clinician without fear that personal information will be shared with unauthorized persons. We do not release information outside the Clinic without your direct permission, except in situations such as those listed below.

The laws of the District of Columbia require the following exceptions to patient confidentiality:

  • If the therapist has knowledge of child, elder, or a person with disability is being neglected or abused.
  • If the therapist has knowledge of intent to harm himself/herself.
  • If the therapist has knowledge of intent to harm others.
  • If the therapist receives a court order to release information.

All clinicians are supervised and consult with licensed mental health professionals. This ensures that you are provided with quality care.
